Bhitarkanika is a unique habitat of Mangrove Forests criss-crossed with numerious creeks and mud flats located in Kendra Para district of Odisha (Formerly Orissa).One of the largest Mangrove Eco system in India, Bhitarkanika is home to diverse flora and fauna. Bhitarkanika located between 86’-45” To 87’17” East longitude and 20’-17” to 20’-47” North latitude in the estuary of Brahmani, Baitarani, Dhamra & Mahanadi river systems,has unique attraction and a boast of nature’s most picturesque sites. The unique bio-diversity attracts visitors to the nature’s lap.
 

Bhitarkanika National Park is a prime habitat of leopard cat, fishing cat, jungle cat, hyena, wild boar, spotted deer, sambar, porcupine, dolphin, salt water crocodile including partially white crocodile, python, king cobra, water monitor lizards, terrapin, marine turtle, kingfisher, wood pecker, hornbill, bar headed geese, brahmany duck, pintail, white bellied sea eagle, tern, sea gull, waders and a large variety of resident and migratory birds.

Entry Points:-

Khola and Gupti are the two main entry points to enter Bhitarkanika National Park. Visitors should take entry permit from the Forest Check Gate at Khola and Gupti.Both Forest Dept. and Private Boats are available at both the places.

Private Boats are also available at JAYANAGAR & CHANDABALI.

The National Park remains closed during the 2nd week of January every year for census of crocodile and from 15th May to 31st July for crocodile nesting and breeding.

• Use a licensed Boat.
• Obtain an entry permit before entering to the National Park.
• Treat the National Park with Respect.
• Dress in colours that blend with the Forest.
• Observe complete silence while moving in the Sanctuary.
• Use torch light while moving in night.
• Obey the rules and regulations of the Park.

Don’ts 

• Do not use the BOAT WITHOUT HAVING A VALID LICENSE
• Do not litter the sanctuary and avoid use of plastics and polythene products.
• Do not venture out at night.
• Do not use blaring musical appliances.
• Do not carry outside food into the National Park.
• Do not go near the Water Bodies.
• Do not carry fire arms and explosives.
• Do not carry meat or meat product.
• Do not pluck flowers, fruits or any other plant parts.
• Do not get out of the vessel while watching wildlife and do not use spot light.
